Where California’s NFL Coaches Rank Among League’s Best in September?
Fact Checked by Michael Peters

We’re closing in on the opening kickoff of the 2023 NFL regular season, when the L.A. Chargers and Rams, as well as the San Francisco 49ers look to find new levels of success on the field.

The three NFL franchises combined to go 28-23 a year ago, with the 49ers winning the NFC West and the Chargers making it to the playoffs on the AFC side as a wild card team, while the Rams faltered to a 5-12 record.

With kickoff just days away, BetCalifornia.com utilized data from Pro-Football-Reference.com to see which coaches get off to a hot start and have the best winning percentage in the month of September.

Coaches must have at least three years as a head coach to qualify for this list.

There is no legal California sports betting. Two referendums to approve wagering failed in 2022, and it will be 2024 before betting can go back before voters.

Where 3 NFL Coaches in California Rank

You don’t have to scroll very far to find Rams’ seventh-year coach Sean McVay on the NFL’s September leaderboard.

The 37-year-old Ohio native has the best record of any active NFL coach during the first month of the regular season, posting a 16-4 (.800) mark during September in his first six seasons.

Despite that success and winning the Super Bowl two seasons ago, the Los Angeles Rams Super Bowl odds are just +7000 — among the bottom 10 teams in the league.

Next up among the Golden State’s coaches is 49ers’ longtime coach Kyle Shanahan, who has posted a 9-10 (.474) record in September in six years with the franchise.

Chargers coach Brandon Staley did not qualify for our list, as he’s only coached the club for two full seasons.

Among the three NFL franchises located in California, the 49ers have the best division championship odds on Caesars Sportsbook — there is no Caesars California. San Francisco is -200 to win the NFC West, while the Rams are +850 to win the West.

The L.A. Chargers are +300 to win the AFC West.
