Another NFL star wide receiver is officially on the market as the league officially opens its free agency period. The Los Angeles Chargers and eighth-year WR Mike Williams are going separate ways after the team released him on March 13.

Williams has been an esteemed pro with the Chargers, posting a career approximate value total of 41 in 88 games with the club, including a 76-catch, 1,146-yard season in 2021.

The 29-year-old out of Clemson struggled to stay on the field last year, however, playing three games with 19 catches and 249 yards before a torn ACL ended his season. That led to his eventual ouster and his first unrestricted free agency.

BetCalifornia.com, as part of our coverage of topics of interest to those waiting for legal California sports betting, has come up with the following hypothetical odds for the next team that Mike Williams will play for in 2024.

Mike Williams Next Team Odds

Team Odds Percent Chance
New York Jets +225 30.8%
Carolina Panthers +350 22.2%
Pittsburgh Steelers +500 16.7%
Kansas City Chiefs +800 11.1%
Baltimore Ravens +1150 8.0%
The Field +1350 6.9%

Where Will Williams Go Next?

These odds were developed exclusively for BetCalifornia.com, which also bring you updates about efforts to legalize California online casinos.

Right now, it seems like a handful of receiver-needy NFL teams are the frontrunners to land Williams, led by the New York Jets (+225), who are our favorites with a 30.8% chance. The Carolina Panthers have moved up to +350 and the Pittsburgh Steelers odds have shifted to +500 since our last update, while the Kansas City Chiefs (+800) and Baltimore Ravens (+1150) are more considered longshots now.

Williams will take his talents elsewhere, though, two years after he signed a three-year, $60 million extension with the Chargers. Now, another NFL franchise can land a receiver that has shown meteoric talents on the gridiron when he can stay healthy enough to stay on it.

That’s one reason we see a host of teams, including the reigning two-time Super Bowl champs, lining up to try to sign Williams in the coming days and weeks, now that he can sign wherever he pleases.

In neighboring Arizona, BetMGM Sportsbook has +3000 odds on the Chargers to win the Super Bowl in February 2025.
