Best Month For Angels: Success Month-By-Month Since 2021

Best Month For Angels: Success Month-By-Month Since 2021
Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

The Los Angeles Angels are used to playing second banana in their own city.

There is no legal California sports betting but it’s still widely known that the Los Angeles Dodgers enter the 2024 Major League Baseball season as heavy wagering favorites to win the World Series. And the Angels are reeling after losing pitching/hitting superstar Shohei Ohtani to free agency – and watching him sign with the crosstown Dodgers, no less.

Are there any trends that might inform bettors on how the Angels might do this season? Spring Training is underway and the regular season is just a couple of weeks away, so we sought to find out one of those trends, namely how the Angels do month by month. BetCalifornia.com, where you can follow updates on efforts to bring California sportsbook apps to the state, consulted the Baseball-Reference website to figure out which months have been best and worst for the Angels over the past three seasons combined. Here are the results.

Los Angeles Angels Best Month

Rank, Month Record Winning Pct.
1. April 41-33 .554
2. June 39-42 .481
3. May 40-46 .465
4. July 31-40 .437
5. August 36-49 .424
6. September 31-48 .392

Angels Best And Worst Months Past 3 Years

The data from Baseball-Reference.com tells us that the Los Angeles Angels play their best in April since 2021. In fact, it’s the team’s only winning month, with L.A. going 41-33 (a .554 winning percentage) in April games during the 2021-23 seasons combined.

It gets pretty grim from there for the Halos, with the winning percentage declining almost in a straight line after that; the only deviation is that June (39-42 record, .481 winning percentage) is slightly better than May (40-46, .465) in that span. The period just before the All-Star break and the months in the entire second half of the season have been dismal in Anaheim lately, bottoming out with a 31-48 mark (.392) in September.

Los Angeles Angels 2024 Odds

There is no BetMGM California Sportsbook in operation, but in neighboring Arizona the operator has +15000 odds on the Angels to surprise everybody and win the 2024 World Series. Only four teams are below that on the board.

Losing Ohtani was the big news of the offseason for the Angels, who also have not gotten a full season out of superstar Mike Trout since 2019. Trout, 32, has been in an out of the lineup with various injuries in the past three years, which has done the Angels no favors in their month-by-month record.

The Angels start their 2024 regular season March 28 and will play three games in four days in Baltimore against the Orioles. After the Angels play a three-game set at the Miami Marlins, they have their opener at Angel Stadium on April 5 against the Boston Red Sox to start a six-game homestand.

If major sportsbook operators can enter the state, we will have the best California sports betting promo codes right here at BetCalifornia.com.
